November

November was one of those months that felt both busy and grounding in all the best ways. We soaked up the fall weather with lots of outdoor time—playing in the leaves, almost-daily walks, and plenty of fresh air before winter settles in.

Matt and the kids joined a ward service project on a farm, and Lydia’s class put on a Veteran’s Day program that was especially meaningful. Matt and Einar were recognized for their service and stood to share when and where they served, along with several other veterans. While we were there, a group from church surprised Matt with treats as a thank-you for his service, which was so thoughtful. That same night, Luke lost his very first tooth—definitely a day to remember.

We took a family day trip to Williamsburg since Lydia is studying Virginia Studies this year, wandered around the zoo on a quiet Sunday afternoon with the Hemseleys, and Lydia and Emmi went to see Avery perform in her high school play. I planned the November YW combined activity of Friendsgiving, which turned out beautifully—everyone wrote what they’re thankful for in the gospel on paper leaves, and we covered the bishop’s door with them the following Sunday. I also made it to my own Friendsgiving with friends, which was such a nice break.

We went to a Richmond Spiders football game and even ran into the Calloways during a Thanksgiving morning turkey trot at the park—Elise and Hazel were wearing almost the exact same outfit (again), which made us laugh. Thanksgiving itself was quiet and sweet, just our family this year. The next day, Matt, Lydia, and Luke took a day trip to Luray Caverns and had an amazing time exploring.

We decorated for Christmas well before Thanksgiving, and the kids took their Christmas list “research” very seriously. 😉 Lots of playing outside, lots of gratitude, and lots of moments that made the month feel full.
