Luke at Three Months

It's hard to believe Luke has been in our family for a quarter of a year!

At three months, he is absolutely adorable and the most easygoing baby ever.

The best way to describe him is good natured! He's happy, smiley, and loves listening to people talk. He's happy to watch and listen and be around people. He coos every day, and has even giggled a few times! Grandma Trudy can get him to giggle better than anyone. :)

The other night we brought him to a family party and he was perfectly content to be passed around. Right now he's a people person and I hope he stays that way!

And we can't get over how perfectly ROUND his little head is. :)

He's never unreasonable about crying, and only makes a fuss when there's something actually wrong.  He even tolerates his big sister's sometimes rambunctious hugs and kisses very well.

His three favorite things right now are: 1. Talking! He LOVES it when people talk or sing to him. His eyes light up, he looks you right in the eye, and smiles and coos! It seems like he can't wait to join in the conversation.

2. Sleep! He's down to just one wake-up during the night (thank goodness because it's just me with him at night until Matt gets back!!), and has actually slept through the whole night four times already. We're doing Babywise and it's made all the difference. Wish I'd known about it with Lydia - it's life changing!

And 3. Being outside. When we're out in the sunshine he happily looks around and seems totally content.

Between being chill and laid back, enjoying other people and sunshine, he seems like a natural Californian!

Luke is growing really fast - even by baby standards. He was born at 6.13 lbs, which is the 10th percentile (tiny!) but at every doctor appointment his weight is in a higher percentile. At his last checkup he was in the 46th percentile! We're so proud of our chubby guy for catching up. A big accomplishment for an exclusively breastfed baby! :)

The first time he slept through the night (at 8 weeks), he woke up SO happy! After his feeding I got these pictures of his reaction:

Is it just me or does he seem proud of himself? I don't think it would have happened without Babywise.

He also likes to go in his jumper. Look at that smile! :)

Here's a fun comparison Heidi made of Matt and Luke as babies...

And here's Matt and Luke now! Can't wait for his daddy to come home so he can get to know him a little better. Luke has changed whole a lot since he was 2 weeks old and Matt had to go back overseas.

We LOVE our Lukey! Even though he always has a stuffy nose and stinky hands, he is perfectly healthy and happy, and puts a smile on everyone's face. :)

Taking care of Luke and Lydia while Matt's deployed has been really challenging at times, but my parents have been beyond helpful. One of the many ways they help is that a few nights per week my dad comes over to hold Luke while I give Lydia a bath and get her into bed. I think they enjoy the male bonding time. :) It's so fun to watch Dad be a grandpa. Strengthening my parents relationship with Luke and Lydia is one of the major blessings of living near them this year!

Just for fun, here's an article I love written by a pediatrician, all about why 3 months is the perfect age. :) In the author's words, "At that age infants have gotten their bearings. They're past what pediatricians call "the fourth trimester." They've put behind them those fussy, colicky weeks of adjusting to life outside the womb. They smile, coo, and wake up happy."

I love watching him grow into a little man and hit milestones. :) It's so much fun watching him get bigger, sturdier, sleep longer stretches, and be more interactive! He's always been adorable, but now he's fun too. :)  Can't wait to see what he accomplishes in the next 3 months!
